Boring Co. LA Tunnel Nearly Complete

The first of a series of planned tunnels to provide rapid electric transportation under the city of Los Angeles is nearly complete, the digging company building the tunnels said this week.

Elon Musk’s Boring Co. released video showing an almost-completed tunnel, and Musk said on Instagram it wold be offering rides to the public through the tunnel in the coming months, pending regulatory approval.

WHY TUNNELS?

Boring Co. last year released a planned map of tunnels that would be used for a planned “electric skate” transit system to help get people around the city’s interminable traffic.

The company is also one of the bidders to build a high-speed transit service from downtown Chicago to O’Hare International Airport, and also is working on the Hyperloop concept – a super-fast tube that can move passengers through tunnels over long distances. The company is working on New York-DC routes, and considering a Los Angeles-San Francisco route for Hyperloop.
