Some say Las Vegas is a world all its own. Its new arena will look like one.
The Las Vegas Sun reported Tuesday that Madison Square Garden Co. and Las Vegas Sands will build the MSG Sphere Las Vegas in the shape of a globe. The 360-foot tall sphere will seat more than 18,000 for concerts and other events, but as of right now, doesn’t have a regular sports tenant, though it could host mixed martial arts and boxing matches.
The Sphere will be just off the Las Vegas Strip, near the Venetian and Palazzo. Construction will start this year, and officials are aiming for a 2020 opening.
Las Vegas Sands will provide MSG with $75 million to help fund construction, the Sun reported. The full cost of the project hasn’t been disclosed.
Madison Square Garden Co. plans to build another sphere arena in London.
